Apart from traditional meetings every 2nd week, we have planned many other events for the time period until august 2012.

Thematic evening with environmental activist and journalist Janis Kleinbergs
23rd February
Janis will share his experience that has been accumulated during years of leading environmental projects in Venezuela like tree planting and improving the wellbeing of local residents. He has recently reflected on his experience and philosophy by writing a book.

Thematic evening with Kaspars Strazdins – permaculture practitioner
22nd March
The topic of discussion is about how to live a more simple and natural life… also about geodesic dome buildings, raw-eating, permaculture, growing hemp and many creative means to live easier, cheaper, greener and better…

Thematic evening about the experience of ecovillage “Dziesmas”
19th April
Mark Leidman coming from the oldest and most experienced Latvian ecovillage, will tell about their 10 year achievements, future`s prospects, challenges and core principles of this eco-community.

Thematic evening with economist and publicist Janis Kucinskis
17th May
The topic of this evening is about sustainable economy and cooperation of society…  about global tendencies and opportunities to develop local economy… about cooperation possibilities between citizens and organisations…

Permaculture workshop, Part I – introduction, principles and examples
29th March
Learning about the concept, principles and ethics. Examples from Transition Towns and ecovillages worldwide.

Permaculture workshop, Part II – how to create a permaculture design
26th April
Examples of practical methods and technologies. Steps for design process.

Permaculture workshop, Part III – practical part
24th May
Hands-on designing and testing these principles in real-life conditions.

Participation in exhibition “Ecovillages – centres of culture, education and creation”
11th February – 11th March
Ikskile Transition Initiative exposition will contain photos, stories, crafts and arts and hemp products made by our members.

Ikskile Transition Initiative participates in the annual country`s clean-up day
21st April
Our team is going to participate in the annual clean-up day, taking care of a currently trashed piece of our precious land.

With an optimistic look into a future, we are considering to attract young and motivated persons from different European countries to involve them in our daily activities and events through the European Voluntary Service. Our aim is to gain experience from our colleagues in Sweden and to hand in a project for EVS in autumn this year.
