British Council Latvia, homo ecos:, Embassy of Sweden and Transition Network invite you to attend the 1st Transition Launch workshop in the Baltic States. The event will take place in Riga, 25th-26th January, 2014.
Transition Initiative is a self-organising group of citizens, who take the leadership and courage to make their village, city or county a more self-sufficient and sustainable place in terms of economics, social life and ecology. Transition Initiatives are aware of the most pressing global challanges like climate change, resource depletion, environmental degradation and the on-going economic crisis, and they respond locally with very practical projects – providing an inspiring alternative for the current way of living. The process of transition includes caring about our inner resources, too, bringing elements of joy, community and inspiration in our lives.
There are hundreds of Transition Initiatives worldwide, but it all started in Great Britain in 2005, therefore it is known as one of the fastest-growing movements today. We hope that this workshop will inspire the Baltic State residents to apply the experience of transition movement to improve the well-being of their local communities with people and resources available locally.
The course will be led by Jan Forsmark – representative of Transition Sweden, which contain more than 100 transition communities today. Jan will share the experience how to create a successful cooperation with organizations, banks and even churches to engage a wide society into the transitioning to a more sustainable future.
